Leslie Wickman

Leslie Wickman, PhD, is an internationally renowned research scientist, engineering consultant, author, and inspirational speaker. Wickman holds a master’s degree in aeronautical and astronautical engineering and a doctoral degree in human factors and biomechanics, both from Stanford University.

Biography

Leslie Wickman, PhD, is an internationally renowned research scientist, engineering consultant, author, and inspirational speaker.
Dr. Wickman was an engineer for Lockheed Missiles & Space Company for more than a decade, during which she worked on NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope and International Space Station Programs, receiving commendations from NASA for her contributions and being designated as Lockheed’s Corporate Astronaut.
Wickman recently resigned after four years as executive director of American Scientific Affiliation. She now divides her time between launching Biola’s Corporate Affiliates Program and running her nonprofit, Starry Nights, Inc.
She occasionally takes on special projects involving technical and/or policy aspects of national aerospace and defense issues, including climate change impacts on national security and future human spaceflight missions and technologies.
Wickman has lectured around the world on astronaut training and operations, environmental stewardship, the interface between science and theology, and more. Another noteworthy achievement is her role with WET Design in R&D and programming for the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas.
Wickman is a dedicated athlete, playing competitive beach doubles volleyball and indoor beach volleyball. Before retiring from women’s professional tackle football, Wickman earned All-Conference recognition and helped her team, the California Quake, win the Women’s World Bowl.
Wickman holds a master’s degree in aeronautical and astronautical engineering and a doctoral degree in human factors and biomechanics, both from Stanford University. She graduated magna cum laude from Willamette University with a bachelor’s degree in political science.
